4x4 If you are looking for a unique 4 wheel drive vehicle then you have come to the right place. The vehicle shown is a mid engined V8 4 wheel drive. The commission brief to Stuart Mills was to create a modern interpretation of a beach buggy but with off road ability. The buggies of the 70’s were rear engined 2 wheel drive. The client in this case desired a more able and powerful vehicle. The engine sits slightly ahead of the rear axle and the gearbox and transfer case is mid-mounted. Gull wing doors were introduced to allow deep wading and a centre tub was bonded to the main body to create a watertight passenger compartment. Whilst the bodywork retained styling hints from a bygone era, high level exhaust, side steps and short front and rear overhang ensured excellent off road ability. At only 1250 kg’s it is almost a half ton lighter than its contemporaries such as the Range Rover. It has two seats and a storage compartment under the nose accessed from the passenger footwell. There is also a sturdy load deck to the rear above the engine. The chassis was fabricated from heavy duty rectangular hollow section with out riggers to bolt the GRP body in place. |
